(E) Tracking

  • Attribute:  Perception
  • Type:  Move
  • Time:  N/A
  • Description:  Those with this skill are adept at locating evidence of passage and following the trail that has been left behind. With a successful skill check, the character is able to locate a trail, see through an attempt to disguise a trail, or relocate a trail after it has been lost. It may also be used to determine specific aspects of the being that left the trail, based on the number of skill points in Scoutcraft, i.e. expert 4-7 points, master 8+ points. A novice can determine the general species, it's overall size, and whether or not it is injured; a master is able to deduce it's mannerisms at the time the trail was left, i.e. hunting, fleeing, roving, etc, and draw conclusions to its overall health, age, gender, etc. The difficulty is based on the age, type, and condition of the trail, as well as other factors that enhance or alter the trail, and it may be modified by countermeasures. If the skill check fails, additional attempts may be made at a progressive difficult (-4) modifier, but after three fails, additional attempts may not be made again on that trail until the skill rank has increased.
  • Example of use:  Find and follow footprints in the sand, broken twigs along a path, or disturbed rocks in a stream bed; see through the use of foliage to hide a trail; determine that an injured animal is fleeing; etc.
  • Prerequisites:  The Search skill and four skill points in Scoutcraft
