- Description: Characters with this skill know techniques for physically slowing or breaking falls to avoid taking damage. The actual actions taken depend on the distance of the fall, obstacles in the area, and available resources. With a successful skill check, the character is able to grab onto an object to stop the fall; hit ledges, tree branches, or other such objects on the way down to break the fall into smaller parts; use the arch position to slow a fall and direct it towards a pliable or sloped surface; etc. Assuming the character is able to use one or more of these techniques to slow or break it, the fall is considered ten yards shorter per two skill ranks in Performance when calculating damage, with a maximum height of eighty yards regardless of the actual distance fallen, and a minimum height of ten yards. It may be used in conjunction with the Tumbling skill to further reduce or negate falling damage. If the skill check fails, additional attempts may be made at a progressive difficult (-4) modifier (depending on the height of the fall), but after three fails, the damage from the fall cannot be mitigated.
